Because we care about the world we live in just as much as you do. At Jackstraw we are committed to the community and the planet.

Childcare Pilot Program

Jackstraw offers two townhome-style apartments reserved for licensed in-home childcare providers through the childcare housing pilot—Oregon’s first-of-its-kind program designed to expand access to full-time, year-round in-home childcare within a multifamily building. Created in response to the statewide childcare shortage, the pilot supports operators with stable, modern living and working space while helping address a critical need facing families in Bend.

Sustainability

Jackstraw is the first apartment project in Bend to pursue LEED for Homes Platinum. We’re aiming for Net-Zero readiness, and are future-proofed to accommodate rooftop solar arrays. Jackstraw is an all-electric building, with no fossil fuels used in the building’s operations or our unit appliances. We have over 60 electric vehicle charging stations, half at Level 1 (120V) and half at Level 2 (240V), as well as base wiring to add plenty more stations in the years to come. Just our little bit toward keeping Oregon green.

Healthy Ecosystem Design & Pollinator Program

Jackstraw is part of a growing national effort to support pollinator health across commercial and residential communities. A dedicated pollinator program, delivered in partnership with Alvéole, will introduce onsite honeybee hives beginning in the spring. In the meantime, two pollinator hotels on the property provide immediate habitat for native bees and other beneficial species.

Nearly one acre of outdoor space at Jackstraw is planted with native, drought-tolerant landscaping that strengthens biodiversity and reflects Bend’s high-desert environment. Seasonal programming and ongoing updates will offer residents simple ways to learn about pollinators and connect with the ecology of the site.

Arts and Creative Expression

Art is integrated throughout Jackstraw, offering a sense of character and connection to the region. Fossils of the Future by E. Tyler Burton anchors the site with a sculptural nod to Bend’s geologic landscape, while cast bronze entry handles by Christian Brown provide a crafted, welcoming detail at the front door.

Inside the building, a robust art program highlights local, regional, and West Coast artists. A large-scale hanging fiber installation by Kellen Meyer creates a striking focal point, and a multi-level stairwell mural by Bend-based artist Katie Daisy adds color, movement, and a strong sense of place. Additional curated pieces across the community reflect the creative energy of the area and invite moments of discovery throughout daily life.
